SLIDE CREEK MEADOW BELOW SLIDE LAKE |
Slide Lake is a great Wind River hike accessed from the Green River Lakes Trailhead. Growing up my family would spend a week every summer camped at Green River Lakes, and this is a hike we would do every year. It was one of my favorites as a kid. Its about a twelve mile round-trip mile hike from the Green River Lakes Trailhead. However, we would usually take a canoe across Lower Green River Lake, shortening it to a six mile round-trip hike.
The trail is beautiful. After walking along the side of Lower Green River Lake, it follows along Clear Creak for about a mile before it crosses over it on a wooden bridge, passes through a meadow and begins a series of switchbacks. After the switchbacks, you come to another beautiful meadow with Slide Creek running through it. A little past the meadow, you will come to Fish Bowl Springs. This is a small but deep pool formed by a spring which is always packed with tiny fish. Its a nice place to take a rest. After Fish Bowl Springs, the trail begins another ascent before finally arriving at the outlet of Slide Lake. When I was a kid it was all about fishing, and one thing that made us love this hike so much was the excellent fishing at Slide Lake.
